August 4th Llanishen and hill
Ian
Difficulty: 8 to 10 Miles moderate
Ian’s walk is located at ‘the other Llanishen’, ie the one in Gwent, near Trellech.
It is a walk on and along the escarpment, which runs roughly north-south, to the immediate west of Trellech, forming a sort of amphitheatre of hills. There are some superb views to be had. The route is over fields, tracks and country lanes mostly and there are one or two short steep ascents, but nothing of a prolonged duration.
Meet Newport Civic centre ( upper car park ) NP20 5BA 9.30 am
Alternatively, meet at 10.20 am at the large lay-by on a slight bend in the B 4293 Monmouth to Trellech road, south east of Trellech, in the direction of Llanishen. Grid reference 495 045. It is opposite the words “B 4293” on the Ordnance Survey Wye Valley 25 000 scale map.
NP25 4PA – post code of the Lion Inn in the centre of the village (the lay-by doesn’t have a post code ; proceed south east towards Llanishen. The lay-by is about ¾ mile out of the village.
